Need Labor, Check Out the Local University

Generally, we have Jared Fischer write this column but for the past three weeks he has been under the gun finishing up his Masters in Accountancy. So, this week I decided to fill the dead air  and talk about how you could save some money and gain some good employee. However, some small businesses may have a hard time with this since not everyone is near a university.

University students although young can add something to your store, creativity. Many students are trying to expand their minds and think outside the box, which can help benefit your store. Now this of course is discretionary as some are in college for the free ride. Some students are there to enjoy college life and not learn.

Many universities are now offering some sort of subsidies for you to offer internships to their students. This could be a huge perk for you and your business. Not only are you getting labor, but you’re getting it at a low price. This is because many universities want to expand their students abilities out in the workplace.

Lastly, students more than likely will not stay with your small business for the long haul, but they can be good contacts down the road. These same students could potentially be the next CEO of a company. How great of a press release would that be? This small business helps give rise to so and so’s professional career. From then on that person has your branding. They worked for you and you were one of the many reasons why they became so great. This could say a lot for your business. This also maybe a stretch, but either way that student could be a billboard for how you do business. If their experience was great they will be sure to pass the word along and maybe even help you find a replacement.

Do you need help finding more information about this with your local university? We would be happy to help just add a comment or email me at:
